Can i buy a home in the US if im living in Canada?

Im living in Vancouver right now, and I don’t plan on moving anywhere else soon. But i’ve been working for a few years now, and i have enough money to put a down payment on a house. I’ve been thinking that i want to buy a house in Hawaii, a place that I can stay when I vacation and eventually live in when i retire.

But what are the laws of owning a home in the US and living in and being a citizen of Canada? do i need some sort of special documents or do i actually need to become a dual citizen? I’ve been trying to find answers to this on the US government’s home page, they haven’t been too helpful.

I appreciate it in advance.

Nothing special is needed. Just fly on down and pick out the one you want. You do not need to be a US citizen to purchase property here.

You can purchase as much property as you can afford in the United States. There’s nothing special needed. It will not change your immigration status nor give you any advantage in gaining immigration status.

If you come in thru Mexico and go into California, you could probably get Pelosi to have the government give you one. In addition, you could probably get free medical care and free higher education to.

You can own property in the US as a Canadian as long as you don’t give up your Canadian residence. If you maintain both domiciles you can stay in Hawaii for up to 1 year and then depart and return. You are responsible for taxes in both countries. Canada will consider you as a dual national. The US will not recognize dual citizenship. You can be refused entry back to Hawaii if you do not adhere to these guidelines. This means that you cannot retire in the US if it means giving up your Canadian residence and obligations. Otherwise, you need to marry a US citizen …
