Few questionsss about skiing?

My family went on vacation to Canada this week and I skiied for the first time ever. I skiied for 4 days and I can snow plow and ski parallel well. One of the instructors even said “You’re a beginner?” after we went down the slope once during my third lesson. Does everyone learn that fast because the insturctors seemed suprised I was doing so well after 4 days? Also, when is it time to get your own skis because I didn’t like the rentals.
btw I’m 15. Thanks =]
i skiied at calabogie, canada

I first skied 2 years ago, and I was a fast learner too. I am also a snowboarder, so I felt comfortable on the snow to start with. I am glad you learned so fast. You can get your own skis when you want, just beware that you won’t grow out of them.

Everyone learns at there own pace. If you are athletic or play sports requiring balance this might help you skiing. Because you are young you are able to pick things up quicker.

Once you know that you will be skiing often I would recommend getting a good pair of skiis. This way you can avoid waiting at the rental shop and go straight to the lift.

Ps. Where did you ski at?

I have been skiing for a good 6 years, and I got my first pair this week.

    They are cute.

Long story short, if you plan to ski a lot, buy skis (especially at the end of the season, because they are much cheaper) because it is cheaper than renting. If you are only going to ski once or twice in a year, just rent. I ski quite frequently. Its good to rent, because you won’t out grow them, you know. And bought skis will be just like the ones you rented.

Everyone learns at a certain pace. I was terrible at skiing to begin with. You are probably quite athletic, right? Its easier for some people then others.

Congratulations! Now you’re a skier and you have an excuse to travel with friends and go to wonderful places and meet people from everywhere! Skiing is such a great sport that way.

I’ve been teaching skiing for a few decades and skiers all learn at different rates. We feel lucky when we get a student who learns as quickly as you did. Having 4 full days on the snow helped you a lot as you got to practice. If you are athletic, coordinated, coachable (you listen and try new things) and if you have any history of ice skating/rollerblading, then skiing is going to be easy to learn.

If you love skiing and think you’ll be doing lots of it, then def. get your own skis. There are great sales in August, you can get last years stuff really cheap. Also consider buying used, lots of ski shops have back rooms with used equipment. Boots will be the most important piece of equipment so make sure you get good boots that fit well.

There is still time left in this season to take another ski weekend you know….
