I want a vacation this Christmas Break, where should I go?

My wife wants a winter getaway over Christmas:
Here are the parameters:
1. It has to be someplace cold. Preferably with a fair amount of snow. We live in warm places all the time, so we like to see snow on our vacations.
2. It has to be cheap. We love going to Colorado for example, but Christmas break is a peak season for that area, we are looking to go someplace off peak to save money. We are looking to spend less than $1000 total. We are willing to drive up to 24 hours, we are in North Carolina right now, so anything on the west coast is out for driving at least. We are also willing to fly if need be, but we would have to take car rental into consideration.
3. The more remote the better. We love Canada, so that is not a problem to drive to. Halifax and Toronto are both within 24 hours drive so anything in between is fine.
4. We are looking for about a ten day to two week period.
So make sure your answer fits all the parameters. We appreciate it!
northern michigan gets a lot of snow The U.P gets tons of snow. it beautiful up in our U.P I added 3 links you can checkout
you should try going to mammoth lakes, california i just got back from there yesterday and i go there all the time. In the winter they get lots of snow and a big mountain about 5 minutes from town to snowboard or ski they have an ice rink and they are lots of places to stay and lots to do. you wouldn’t need a car because they have a good trolley system that goes all around town for free
Niagara Falls….Canadian site….It’s quite pretty around the holidays. Stay in Niagara on the Lake. Very quaint and prices are very reasonable around the holidays
you can go to bombay (India) , they have nice beaches there and youll get a free cow escort from the airport
I think that $1000.00 is probably unrealistic for a 10-14 day vacation, unless you’re willing to settle for very simple accommodations and buy your food at a grocery store. Think about it; that’s $100/day for 10 days and has to include gas, room and food for 2 people. Having said that, my part of the country has snow, mountains, quaint villages, all types of accommodations, friendly people and it’s only around 15 hours from North Carolina. It’s the area around Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, which is situated about 30 miles north of the Vermont border at Newport, Vermont, and about 90 miles east of Montreal. The general area is called the “Eastern Townships” and I’ve included a link to the area.
You can go to the Poconos,Northwestern Mass in the Berkshires.Northeastern NY,Vermont,New Hampshire ,Maine. It would take a long time to drive to Toronto and longer to Halifax.I live in Connecticut and been to both places.
