Is Prince Edward Island “Canada’s Cape Cod”?

After seeing several real estate listings on Canada’s smallest Province as a result of work research, PEI sounds very similar to Cape Cod, Massachusetts as a summer resort/vacation home place. Is this a fair characterization?

I have not been to Cape Cod, but it is true that PEI is a huge tourist destination and summer vacation place for lots of people.

Some of PEI is very rural and lovely, with farms, rolling gentle hills and beautiful seashore. Some of it is really touristy with theme parks, gift shops, motels, etc. Charlottetown is a nice small city with some interesting things to do.

I think there is more money in Cape Cod…. and the postcards etc that I have seen look more like Nova Scotia than PEI, but I could be wrong.

PEI is an Island where as Cape Cod is not…Cape Cod is a very built up area where as PEI is quite rural and quaint, not at all a busy city type atmosphere. But they both are on salt water coasts…so that may be a similarity there.

PEI has 3 major industries agriculture, fishing and tourism. Unfortunetly all 3 are dying out. PEI is slowly becoming one of the poorest provinces in Canada.
As far a PEI being a tourist vacation province yes it is true and that is common to Cape Cod. There are many seasonal homes here on the island many are owned by some of our weathier islanders but most are owned by people from away who come for one or two months of the year.
Most of our employment force is seasonal, our office jobs, computer tech jobs or skilled trade jobs are not always paid fairlier in comparison to the rest of the country (even atlantic canada alone) if you are paid well you do not always work a full time work week, and odds are you are employed by someone from away.
