Mike Weir was inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame on Saturday night at Huron Oaks, the course where the left-hander fell in love with the game.

“It’s special to do it here,” said Weir, the 2003 Masters champion. “I see a lot of family and friends. Obviously, it’s kind of where I grew up and where it all began for me. I feel good. It’s a great night.”

Mike Weir tied for second place at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio this past weekend. The former Masters champion is starting to find his game as he prepares for next week’s challenging U.S. Open. Weir shot 71 on the final day (one-under-par) finishing the tournament at -6, which was two strokes back of third-time winner Kenny Perry. His course-management skill, exceptional short game, and accurate putting defined his 2003 Masters win and were apparent in his play this weekend. Weir will be in need of these assets, as well as more quality shots, to have any success at the coming U.S. Open.

“He looks under control,” said CBS analyst Peter Oosterhuis about Weir.
