For the more adventurous and inquisitive a guided tour will be the perfect introduction to your beach vacation. Learn about the varied geology, flora and the fauna of the area.

Discover a network of beaches that extends for miles across sand dunes, barrier islands and sand pits. Explore sandstone cliffs, wetlands and forest. Prince Edward Island is Canada’s smallest and greenest province. Cradled on the waves of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the Island is known for the vivid colours of its gently rolling landscape. The Island is surrounded by miles of sandy beaches and red sandstone cliffs and is sized just right for touring. Visitors to the Island return home not only relaxed and refreshed – they often claim to have been transformed, which leads us to wonder “What if the World Had Been to Prince Edward Island?”

Many times we get really stressed from the hustle and bustle of office work, daily chores and the continuous buzz of city life. So we plan to take a much needed vacation or holiday trip in order to refresh our mind and spirit. Mostly islands serve as popular vacation destinations, but all of them are deeply crowded and inhabited, so you will find it difficult to spend a fun-filled or intimate time with your beloved.

Decide on allocation for a private island vacation. Although we tend to think of private islands in tropical settings, you can book a holiday on islands all over the United States and Canada. Make a list of the things you want in a private island vacation. Some, for instance, are so remote that there won’t be many services such as telephone or television.

One of the most beautiful and luxurious private islands in the Caribbean is the Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. Necker Island is a private island owned by Sir Richard Branson, he calls this island his home and his favorite hideaway. The island is surrounded by the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean Sea and the Great House sits on top of the Devils Hill on the highest ground of the island.

You can even opt for private island vacations off the coast of Belize or other Central American country where you can engage in world class scuba diving and snorkeling plus windsurfing, surf kayaking, board surfing, and sport fishing. Warm island retreats are available in warm Atlantic waters as well as remote areas of the Pacific or Indian Oceans.

Another Island that you can rent is the Spanish Water Cay, Venezuela. Spanish Water Clay is a one-acre island, equipped with three buildings, phones, Internet, television, and sleeps up to 10. This tiny island luckily is a short boat ride away to the main island of Curacao, and you need to spend $5,500 per week for eight people.

So plan a private island vacation and enjoy with your family or beloved!

There’s no feeling that beats hitting a perfect shot. Except hitting a perfect shot against the perfect backdrop. Prince Edward Island’s natural scenery has made for some of North America’s most beautiful golf courses. And with more than 25 of them, it is the perfect place for a golf vacation.

The quality of golf on the island is completely dependent on the player behind the club. There is no shortage of available opportunities ranging from the club on the edge of town, to the five-star resort that attracts some of the biggest names in the golf world. And it’s not limited to the players. Some of the most renowned golf architects have designed courses on the island, offering breathtaking vistas that are challenge enough for any golf enthusiast.

Among the storied names there is of course, Mike Weir who debuted at the 1998 Canadian Skins Game and who will make his Prince Edward Island return again this summer. For women golfers, Lorie Kane and four-time Player of the Year, Nancy Lopez played Prince Edward Island’s Brudenell River during Canada’s first-ever women’s skins game. As for designers, Stanley Thompson, Les Furber, Rob Heaslip and Robbie Robinson have each left their mark on the Island.

The makings of the perfect golf vacation include, of course, great golf courses, but also everything that goes with it. That includes accommodations, sights, sounds, cuisine, and perhaps a little downtime at a local PEI spa.

The sights can be seen both on and off the golf course and include the sapphire blue of the ocean water, beach sands in shades of white, champagne pink and red, and mile-high sand dunes teeming with shore life and ecosystem that includes the endangered Piping Plover..

Inland this gentle island is as much renowned for its pastoral landscapes and nature trails as it is for its farmlands and PEI potatoes. And though the Island measures less than 500 miles from tip to tip, it is the perfect spot for a golf vacation, with numerous courses catering to both the seasoned pro and recreational player.

When touring Prince Edward Island on your golf vacation, you will see miles of lush rolling farmlands and coastlines dotted with fishing harbours. So it may not come as a surprise to discover that we’re well-known for our food.

Prince Edward Island is home to Malpeque oysters, cultured blue mussels and our world-famous PEI potatoes. And you haven’t experienced taste or Island hospitality until you’ve gone to a lobster supper in a church hall on a hot summer’s night. There’s also no shortage of renowned restaurants featuring an array of Island delicacies.

There is much to do on a golf vacation on this gentle island. So much, in fact, you’ll want to come back time and time again.

As a coastal community the lighthouses of Prince Edward Island not only served the practical purpose of lighting the way home before the era of GPS navigation, they now offer a unique opportunity to those who visit. Prince Edward Island offers a variety of lighthouse tours ranging from the scenic to the informative.

As most are aware, lighthouses served as a navigational aid for sailors and the ships they captained. Lighthouses are towers that are positioned on sea shores, or even sometimes in harbours. They use a series of lamps and lenses to help guide navigating vessels on the high seas. Lighthouses are used to mark dangerous coastlines, steer ships away from hazards, mark safe entry points into harbours and assist in aerial navigation. With that in mind it is important to note how important lighthouses were to trade and commerce throughout human history.

PEI has a rich history and is the birthplace of confederation in Canada. It also has many historic lighthouses that were used to guide the ships delivering goods to and from Canada. PEI’s lighthouses are classified in two ways “First Generation” (built before 1873) and “Second Generation” (those built following 1873). The difference between the two types is that first generation lighthouses have an octagonal shape and were constructed when timber was plentiful in the province. The second generation lighthouses are square shaped as by this point (post 1873) PEI’s timber supply had been scarce because of the shipbuilding industry.

Lighthouse technology, although used less in modern times, employs a series of lamps and lenses to project light over large distances. This technology utilizes concentrated light from a single continuous source and magnifies and reflects it so that it can be beamed across open water. The first lighthouses were lit by candles, later by whale oil, then by the 1870’s kerosene was typically used.

As an island PEI boasts over 40 historic lighthouses. Surrounded by both scenic red sand beaches and rugged cliffs touring the lighthouses provides wonderful insight into maritime life and well as a rich Canadian history. Since Prince Edward Island is surrounded by water you are never to far from the breathtaking views of the gentle island.

About PEI Prince Edward Island is widely known as the historic birthplace of Canada. The Charlottetown conference held in 1864 was the first meeting of a series which ultimately led to the confederation of Canada in 1867.
