Why should we be concerned about fishing contribution?

The fishing industry in Canada occurs for less that 0.1% of the total economy. Why should we be concerned that the Canadian fisheries are having difficulty when fishing contributes so little to the economy?
I am not callous. I need homework help…how can you be so presumptious!

Reason # 1………I love fish and any seafood. It’s healthy and good for you. # 2 Those fishermen and their families have relied on fishing as a livelihood for ever. How can you be so callous?
Shame on you as a Canadian!

Because they provide Canada with a cheap source of protein and a fair number of jobs both in the industry & in ancillary areas ie transportation, suppliers, food preparation. Consider that if fishing industry were to disappear, Another country’s fishing fleet would come in or buy the Canadian businesses which would increase the cost of the Canadian consumers for this valuable resource – fish..
